I'm a Christian, an ex leftist atheist who hated Jewish. It turns out that I'm a PhD candidate and one of my closer friends is a cultural Jew from Israel, Jerusalem. I can't believe how many things we have in common and how thankful I have become to Jewish x
Culture. I might keep saying that Jesus is my God and you that the Almighty is the only one. But at the final of the day we know that our religions are pacifist in their fundamentals. We will keep having disagreement but we know that we are open to dialogue and honest discussions. If anything happens, I will support you by any ends and I know that a lot of Christians will do it too.

I have been a history professor for 27 years. It is appalling how little students know about the history and how easily they believe all the antisemitic rhetoric they are hearing on colleges. You ask them what river and what sea they are chanting about, and they can't tell you. You tell them Gaza was controlled by Egypt not Israel from 1948-1967 and they look at you with this blank expression. You ask them why are upset about Israel and not real atrocities that nations like Iran and China commit and they can't even tell you what is going on in those other nations. It is both depressing and funny. And for anyone who does actually want to know the history of Israel I am more than happy to share my lectures.

Who are the 'real' Iranians? There are plenty of them who want our blood. I am aware there are many who wish to remove the present regime of the mullahs. That does not mean they love us. To my mind when G-d stopped Abraham from sacrificing Isaac, a directive against child abuse was laid down. When Moses led the slaves to freedom, a directive against slavery was laid down. These two directives are the foundations of healthy community everywhere.

@@maltija1 I heard Mosab Hassan Yousef (you know about him?) say the Islamist interpretation is that G-d was testing Abraham to see if he would obey G-d by sacrificing his son. That fits w a culture that does suicide bombing & uses kids as human shields. Being raised (atheist) Jewish I found that interpretation shocking, but it makes sense. There are always lots of ways to interpret Torah (or Q'ran or whatever). I don't know what Christian culture does w the story of Abraham & Isaac, & I am now curious . . . .
It's changed w youth because gen Z in the states (at least on college campuses) has bought into the bs that Israel is a white colonial power, but the older generations of African Americans loved Moses for freeing the slaves. I don't know of any other Christian group that holds Moses so high. (Which doesn't mean they aren't out there. The world is a big place.). It used to be a bond between African Americans & American Jews; to honor Moses.

Myself; I think Judaism is oldest, & age brings wisdom, & being such a small population has never got cocky. Christianity was awful in the Middle Ages, wars based on religion, burning heretics, etc, but for the most part Christianity has matured; a lot of it. Islam is young & their leaders are awful.

Our religions make us who we are. It's known that a particular religion tells its followers to fight the Jews and Christians till judgement day, and that is exactly what we see they are doing. They are allowed to use taqqiyah (lying) in their fight against their enemies and we also see that actively in play and many fell to taqqiyah - including heads of governments, educated people and university students. How can we forget 'Your religion is your religion and my religion is my religion' but later when they became powerful it changed to 'dead or pay jizyah'. Never be fooled by taqqiyah. True Christians always stand with the Jews.

What does that say about such religions? Not all religions do. Should we dismiss these religions as being false, failed, and invalid. I am so sorry. As a Christian I apologise on behalf of the church for Christian hatred of Jewish people. I have to tell you that I love you. I see myself as a wild olive branch grafted onto the cultivated olive tree. Original Christianity loves the Jew. It is not a Christian characteristic to hate Jews. True Christains don't hate jews but pray for them to come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ to which some have. Christainty has never been based on forcefulness but on persuasion. I believe conditions weren't so great in Arab countries after Islam rose and began to spread throughout the region. Perhaps there weren't so many pogroms or expulsions, but they made Jews 2nd class citizens and expected them to pay the 'Jizyah' the tax on these 2nd class citizens. This went back over 1000 years.

Christendom learnt the lesson after 1500 years of infighting, became a bit more secular and it helped, not perfect by any means but workable. The Islamic world may still be 600-700 years behind.
Turkey under Ataturk emerged to start becoming a modern state. Then they had an aberration some 20 years ago and regressed. There is not one Arab state in the ME that is a democracy, that grants women equal rights, not to mention minorities or LGBT groups. That tells you how far they lag behind the west.
I too felt vaguely sorry for the "Palestinians" without knowing quite what was going on, but my heart was always with the Jewish people. After the 7th October, I watched and read and have learnt as much as I could, and discovered that my heart had been right all along. We DON'T all hate you.

These are Arabs from Egypt, most Gazans have Egyptian names,Saudi,Syria and Jordan,which has a big number of"Palestinians".They came as immigrants of cheap labour for the British Mandate in the early 20th century

Thank you for this very helpful discussion and tracing the history of Israel and the Jewish people and for showing how they were victors in every war, even though 6 Arab states lined up against them as soon as Israel was made a nation in May 1948. The writer below 'History for the ages' said 'its appalling how little students know about history'...That is so true and the ignorance of the younger generation has made them naive and easily influenced. (That is tragic and partly due to schools erasing history as a subject in schools). No doubt Marxism was an influence in this area. Another area of ignorance is the Bible. Wherever students neglect to read the Bible, there is no understanding of what God's plan was for mankind and the Jews. God gave Abraham and his seed the promise they would inherit the land of Israel (hence Abraham went to this land God gave him). There is also a verse in Romans saying 'has God cut off the Jews?' Apostle Paul answer 'never' as God has made a life long covenant which is to last forever and ever. He is a God who cannot lie.
